Laptop Screen Replacement - Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs
How can I be certain the issue is only with my laptop screen?
To check if the issue is just with your laptop screen, try connecting your laptop to a computer monitor or TV screen with an HDMI or VGA cable.
If you can see the laptop display on the connected monitor or TV screen, this is a sign that the issue is just with the Laptop Screen.
Will replacing my laptop screen affect my data and files?
No, changing or replacing just the Laptop screen will not affect your data or files as long as the problem is only with your laptop display screen.
My laptop computer screen is black! What should I do?
If your laptop screen is not displaying any images and is blank or black, several troubleshooting steps that might
help you narrow down the issue. Review each section below for steps that might help.
Check If your laptop is booting:
Although you may not be able to see anything on the screen, listen to the laptop for sounds indicating it is running.
If you do not hear any sounds from your laptop, this could mean your laptop is not turned on or is not turning on and the issue is with the power supply.
You can also connect your laptop to a computer monitor or TV screen via a VGA or HDMI cable to confirm.
Operating system issues:
If the computer boots up, but the screen goes black or blank after you log in, there may be an issue with the operating system.
One of the main causes of this issue is a corrupt operating system file preventing the operating system from loading,
resulting in a black or blank screen. Restart your laptop to see if it is a temporary issue and resolves itself with a reboot.
If the problem persists, you might need to reinstall Windows. Give us a call and we can help you confirm what the problem is and fix your laptop for you.
Display Screen Issue:
If you have followed both steps above, you will have confirmed that the issue is just with your laptop screen.
If your laptop is still under warranty, we recommend you contact the laptop manufacturer or retailer for directions on how to get a replacement.
If the laptop is no longer under warranty, unfortunately, for most end-users, repairing a bad laptop LCD can be complicated
or may result in further damage if not done properly. We recommend you contact us to help you replace your laptop screen.
My Laptop Screen is showing Lines and black spots. What should I do?
White lines or black spots on your laptop screen may be caused by one of these reasons.
A Bad Video Data Cable: A Video Data Cable is a cable that connects your laptop screen to the motherboard.
Lines and spots could appear if there is damage to the laptops video data cable.
To check if the problem is with the cable, move the upper part of the laptop screen
that holds the LCD backwards and forwards from the hinge while observing the display.
If the laptop display images get better or worse by doing this, it could be a sign that the video data cable is damaged
or has a bad connection.
Problem with GPU (Graphics Processing Unit): Lines and spots on your laptop screen can also be caused by
a problem with your GPU. You can confirm this by connecting your laptop up to an external monitor or TV. If the images are clear on the
external monitor and there are no spots or lines, then the problem is either with the laptop LCD or the video data cable.
If the pictures on the external monitor also have spots and lines, then the spots and lines are most likely
caused by a failing video memory card or GPU.
LCD Screen Defect: In 95% of all cases the problem is caused by a defective or damaged laptop LCD Screen and you
will need to replace the Laptop's Screen. Give us a call and we can help you confirm exactly what the problem is and replace your screen
with a new one if required.
Matte vs. Glossy Laptop Screens: Which Is Better?
Glossy Laptop Screens:
These are laptop screens that are bright, shiny and glossy. They have a reflective surface made from either glass or polymers
to give it that beautiful look. They also have a high degree of transparency which allows their displays to emit a high light output,
resulting in very vivid images. Glossy laptop screens tend to have deeper darks, brighter whites, and bright rich
colours than matte laptop screens. They are a pleasure to use when gaming or watching videos and movies.
The issue that some people have with glossy laptop screens is that even with anti-glare, glossy screens can be very reflective.
This means that a glossy laptop screen tends to reflect light sources in your surroundings into your display.
If the lighting in your work area or room is not optimal for a glossy laptop screen, you could end up staring
at your reflection or having to adjust your location to avoid screen glare. Glossy laptops screens also tend to smudge more easily.
Matte Laptop Screens:
Matte screens are very practical and perform very well in all environments. A matte laptop screen surface is usually made from
plastic or polymers that have gone through the process of etching, which is the creation
of grooves and indentations within the screen surface. This process helps prevent reflections by scattering the light particles
that hit the laptop display surface.
It does not prevent all reflections however it prevents the mirror effect you could get on a Glossy Laptop screen in some condition.
On the downside, a Matte laptop screen tends to block out more light emitting from the display which could result in less
image illumination, lower contrast and not as bright colours when compared to a glossy screen.
Can viruses damage my laptop screen?
Viruses do not usually damage the screen of your laptop.
Viruses can however result in your laptop's screen being all
black if the operating system has been corrupted.
